This membership-based site considers itself to be the ultimate resource for writers and artists, with statistics and research-based news and reports to help writers stay up to date on the latest in the industry. They also have a list with more than 7,600 active publishers and agents and a handy submission tracker and theme/deadline calendar to keep a record of your submissions.

4. Equity Directory

Developed by the Literary Agents of Change, this is a free resource to “help querying authors and illustrators find and connect with BIPOC agents and to foster community between BIPOC agents and their publishing peers.” Each listing gives you information on the agent’s participation in various communities (like if they’re a member of the Association of American Literary Agents), what genres they’re interested in, and links to their agency’s website.

Writer’s Digest 101 Best Websites for Writers 2024

Over the past several weeks, we’ve shared our 101 Best Writing Websites for 2024. Creating this list is a year-long project that involves an overwhelming number of bookmarked sites on our browsers. There are so many great websites for writers—with more popping up practically daily—it’s no wonder this is still one of our most popular features after 25 years.

This year, as always, you’ll find a blend of sites that are useful to writers of all types, abilities, experience levels, and genres. Some websites have been on this list for more than a few years now, because they consistently produce quality content that never disappoints, alongside other sites that are still fairly new but have already made a name for themselves. Additionally, we’re pleased to include 12 websites that appear on the list for the first time.

As with all of our recommendations, we do our best to ensure the details in the listings are accurate at the time the issue goes to the printer, but inevitably something will change. So, be sure to check the websites themselves for the most up-to-date information.

Kate McKean is VP of the Howard Morhaim Literary Agency where she has worked since 2006. Her biweekly Substack newsletter features advice, encouragement, and self-care tips for writers. The Tuesday newsletter is free for anyone, but subscribers who pay for the Thursday newsletter get more in-depth content.

This should be a go-to resource for any querying writer looking to find a reputable literary agent because all member agents agree to abide by their code of ethics. Search for agents by name or by genre/category.

3. Manuscript Wish List

One of the best resources for writers looking for representation, this website houses a database of agents and editors and what exactly they’re looking for, as well as how and when to submit material. Their free blog tackles subjects ranging from agent and author interviews to free classes and live panels where agents review queries. Head over to their podcast for more in-depth discussions about pitching and publishing.

4. QueryTracker

QueryTracker.net

QueryTracker helps your story find the right home with their database of thousands of literary agents looking for manuscripts. Select from a dropdown of agents, publishers, as well as additional resources from their newsletter, blog, and more.

In this boot camp from Fuse Literary Agency, attendees will learn how to put together a short yet effective query letter and a one- to two-page book synopsis (fiction). They’ll also learn some best practices for submitting their query, pages, and synopsis to agents. Each attendee will have the opportunity to have ten pages critiqued by an agent along with their work in any combination: query letter, manuscript pages, and synopsis.
